CASE STUDY
PATIENT
76-year-old Caucasian male, bilateral transtibial amputee with type-II diabetes. He has worn his prostheses for 2 years. The patient presented with an open wound with a bacterial infection diagnosed by the physician. Initial antibiotic treatment had been unsuccessful.
TECHNOLOGY
The BLUEWAVE Disinfection Device is a vacuum infusion technology that utilizes high concentrations of activated oxygen gas to kill microbes on both hard and soft surfaces.
MANAGEMENT AND OUTCOME
The clinician used BLUEWAVE to treat the prosthetic liners in contact with the patient's infected residual limb 6 times over the course of 12 weeks. Simultaneous antibiotic treatment initiated by the referring physician.

At initial follow-up after the first treatment, the wound showed noticeable improvement. Full wound healing was achieved after 6 BLUEWAVE treatments over 12 weeks and no residual limb infection has recurred since the implementation of the BLUEWAVE.
DISCUSSION
Significant improvement was observed after the first BLUEWAVE treatment indicating a beneficial impact on the wound-healing process. Further research needed to fully establish a causal relationship.
